Serienkomponenten

Serienkomponenten, often translated as serial components or series components, refers to elements or parts that are connected in a series configuration within an electrical circuit. In a series circuit, electrical current flows through each component sequentially, meaning the same current passes through every part of the circuit. This is in contrast to a parallel configuration, where components are connected across each other, allowing current to divide and flow through different branches.

The defining characteristic of a series connection is that there is only one path for the current to travel. If any part of a series circuit is broken, such as a burned-out light bulb or an open switch, the entire circuit will cease to function because the flow of current is interrupted. This interdependence is a key feature of serial components.

The total resistance in a series circuit is the sum of the resistances of all individual components. Similarly, the voltage from the power source is divided among the components in proportion to their individual resistances. This means that components with higher resistance will experience a greater voltage drop. Examples of serial components include resistors, capacitors, inductors, and even simple switches when they are placed one after another in a circuit path. Understanding the behavior of serial components is fundamental to analyzing and designing electrical systems.
