Seocho

Seocho District (Seocho-gu) is a district of Seoul, South Korea. Situated on the southern bank of the Han River, it forms part of the city’s southern Gangnam area. The district combines residential neighborhoods with business and cultural facilities and serves as a transportation hub for southern Seoul. The district office is located in Seocho-dong, and the area is subdivided into neighborhoods known as dongs, including Banpo-dong, Seocho-dong, Jamwon-dong, Bangbae-dong, and others.

Cultural and landmarks in Seocho include the Seoul Arts Center, a major cultural complex with performance halls and museums. Banpo Hangang Park, along the Han River in Banpo-dong, is a popular recreational area and is notable for the Banpo Bridge with its Rainbow Fountain.

Economy and infrastructure in the district reflect a mix of residential and commercial zones, with schools, government facilities, and service industries contributing to local activity. Transportation is well developed, and the district is served by multiple Seoul Metropolitan Subway lines, with stations on Line 3 and Line 7. Nambu Bus Terminal, a major intercity bus hub, is also located in the district, linking Seocho with other regions of the country.

History and administration: Seocho-gu was created in 1988 as part of the administrative reorganization that split the former Gangnam District into Seocho-gu and the current Gangnam-gu. The district continues to function as a distinct local government unit within Seoul, overseeing urban planning, public services, and local development.
