Sentinel1C

Sentinel-1C is a planned satellite mission within the European Space Agency's Copernicus Programme. It will be the third satellite in the Sentinel-1 constellation, joining Sentinel-1A and Sentinel-1B. Sentinel-1C, along with its twin Sentinel-1D, is designed to extend the operational lifetime of the Sentinel-1 mission. The primary instrument on Sentinel-1C will be a C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR). This radar system allows for imaging of the Earth's surface regardless of weather conditions or time of day, making it a crucial tool for various applications.

The Sentinel-1 mission provides continuous radar imagery for a wide range of services, including maritime surveillance, land motion monitoring, and emergency management. Sentinel-1C will contribute to maintaining this vital data stream. Its data will be used for applications such as monitoring sea ice extent, tracking oil spills, mapping land use changes, and assessing damage after natural disasters like earthquakes and floods. The constellation's redundancy, provided by Sentinel-1C and Sentinel-1D, ensures a continuous and reliable supply of data for these critical applications. The mission aims to provide an uninterrupted C-band SAR data service to support climate change monitoring, security, and environmental management.
