Common types of sensor outputs include analog signals and digital signals. Analog outputs are continuous and vary proportionally to the measured physical quantity. These can be simple binary signals (on/off) or more complex serial data streams containing encoded measurements.

The format of analog sensor outputs often includes voltage or current signals. Voltage outputs might range from 0-5V or 0-10V, while current outputs are frequently 4-20mA loops, which are robust against electrical noise. Digital outputs can be presented in various protocols like I2C, SPI, or UART, allowing for communication with microcontrollers and other digital devices.

The specific characteristics of a sensor's output, such as its range, resolution, accuracy, and response time, are critical factors in selecting the appropriate sensor for a given task. Understanding these output characteristics is essential for interfacing the sensor correctly with other electronic systems and for interpreting the data it provides.
