Semiología
Semiología, also known as semiotics, is the study of signs and symbols and their interpretation. It examines how meaning is created and communicated through various forms of signs, including words, images, gestures, and sounds. The field explores the relationship between a sign, its referent (the object or concept it represents), and the interpretant (the meaning understood by the observer).
Key figures in the development of semiology include Ferdinand de Saussure, a Swiss linguist who viewed signs
