Individuals who are self-emancipated may face significant challenges. Without the support structure of a family or legal guardianship, they may struggle with accessing education, healthcare, and stable housing. They may also be more vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking. Support services for runaway and homeless youth often serve individuals who are self-emancipated, providing resources like shelter, counseling, and assistance with education and employment. The decision to self-emancipate is usually a last resort, driven by a need for safety and autonomy.
