Seinätulppa

Seinätulppa, often referred to as a wall plug or anchor, is a fastener used to enable the attachment of screws to softer materials such as plaster, drywall, brick, or concrete. Without a seinätulppa, a screw driven directly into these materials would likely not hold securely due to their lack of density. The seinätulppa expands within the pre-drilled hole, creating a solid base for the screw to grip.

Commonly made of plastic or nylon, seinätulpat come in various shapes and sizes, each suited for different load capacities and wall types. The simplest designs are cylindrical with fins to prevent rotation during installation. Others feature a threaded exterior that grips the material as it's screwed in, offering greater holding power. Some specialized seinätulpat are designed for hollow walls, employing a toggle mechanism that unfolds behind the wall surface.

Installation typically involves drilling a hole of the appropriate diameter into the wall, then inserting the seinätulppa. Once the plug is seated, the screw is driven into it, expanding the plug and securing the item to the wall. The choice of seinätulppa depends on the weight of the object to be hung and the type of wall material. Overloading a seinätulppa can lead to failure, causing the object to detach.
