Segmentbauweise refers to a construction method where a structure is assembled from prefabricated, standardized modules or segments. These segments are manufactured off-site in a controlled environment, allowing for higher quality control and faster on-site assembly. The principle is similar to building with large LEGO bricks, where individual components are made to precise specifications and then joined together at the construction site.

This method is particularly common in tunnel construction, where large, circular or arched segments are produced and then assembled sequentially to form the tunnel lining. It is also employed in the construction of bridges, prefabricated buildings, and even some types of ships. The segments can be made from concrete, steel, or composite materials, depending on the specific application and structural requirements.
