SegWitenabled

SegWitenabled is a term used to describe a Bitcoin node or wallet that has been configured to support Segregated Witness (SegWit) transactions. SegWit is a protocol upgrade to the Bitcoin blockchain that was activated in August 2017. It aims to improve transaction scalability and security by separating the digital signature (witness data) from the transaction data. This separation allows for more transactions to fit into each block, effectively increasing the network's transaction capacity.

When a node or wallet is SegWitenabled, it can create, send, and receive SegWit transactions. This often results in lower transaction fees for users, as the witness data is treated differently for fee calculation purposes. Furthermore, SegWit transactions are more resistant to transaction malleability, a vulnerability that could previously allow attackers to alter transaction identifiers before they were confirmed.

To be SegWitenabled, a Bitcoin client must be updated to a version that supports the SegWit soft fork. Users typically enable SegWit through their wallet's settings or by using a newer version of Bitcoin Core or a compatible wallet. The adoption of SegWit has been gradual, but it is now widely supported by most major Bitcoin services and wallets, contributing to the ongoing evolution and efficiency of the Bitcoin network.
