Seerumin

Seerumin is a fictional mineral described in the science-fantasy setting of Veridia. It occurs as transparent to translucent prismatic crystals that range from pale blue to violet and is notable for its luminescent optical properties. The mineral was first described by geologist L. Kest in 2124 during fieldwork in the Nebra Rift.

Composition and properties: Seerumin is described as a silicate with variable trace elements, lacking a fixed chemical formula. Specimens are described with admixtures of lanthanides, which influence color and luminescence. It typically crystallizes in the hexagonal system. Mohs hardness is about 6, with a specific gravity around 2.9–3.3. It fluoresces strongly under ultraviolet light, emitting an azure glow. Seerumin is relatively brittle with basal cleavage and a tendency to fracture along grain boundaries.

Occurrence and formation: Seerumin deposits occur in hydrothermal veins and late-stage pegmatites associated with basaltic rocks. It forms through metasomatic alteration of feldspar-rich rocks in high-temperature hydrothermal environments, concentrating trace elements that drive color and luminescence. Notable occurrences are reported in Veridia’s Nebra Rift and Ironshore Belt.

Uses: In the Veridian economy, seerumin is valued for jewelry and as a source of luminescent pigment and phosphor material for signaling and consumer electronics within the fiction.

Etymology: The name Seerumin derives from its luminous appearance and the association with foresight in regional folklore, combining a root meaning “to see” with a suffix intended to evoke light.

Conservation: Deposits are limited and geographically restricted, so mining is regulated to ensure sustainability and protect cultural heritage.
