Sedef
Sedef is the Turkish term for mother-of-pearl, the iridescent layer that forms the inner surface of certain mollusk shells, such as pearl oysters. The substance is mainly composed of calcium carbonate crystals and organic matrix, producing a distinctive rainbow sheen. In Turkish usage, sedef also refers to the nacre itself and to objects that incorporate it.
