Sealedpot refers to a hermetically sealed vessel designed to minimize the exchange of air and moisture with the surrounding environment. The term can apply to containers made of ceramic, glass, metal, or composite materials, and to lids or caps that form a tight seal with gaskets, wax, cork, clay slip, or precise fits. In traditional pottery and kitchenware, sealing is often achieved by pressing a lid and sometimes sealing the rim with dough or clay to create a closed environment.

Common uses of sealed pots include long-term storage of dry goods such as grains and spices, preservation of liquids, and containment for fermentation or pickling processes. In laboratory or industrial contexts, similar vessels provide a controlled environment for reactions or sample storage, though the exact design may differ from culinary variants.

In cooking, the sealed pot is associated with dum pukht or “sealed pot” techniques, where a pot is sealed with dough to trap steam and aromas. This method enables slow, even cooking and helps flavors concentrate, a practice found in several South Asian culinary traditions.

Care and safety considerations include choosing nonreactive materials for acidic foods, regular cleaning to prevent contamination, and ensuring that sealing mechanisms do not create dangerous pressure when heated. Sealed pots may crack if exposed to rapid temperature changes, so gradual heating is advised.
