Scyldingas
Scyldingas is an Old English term that refers to the kindred or dynasty of Scyld, the legendary Danish king who appears in the epic poem Beowulf. In the poem Scyld is praised as a glorious ruler whose reputation and achievements were known for generations; the poet declares that the warriors of the Geats feared his bloodline because of the wealth and influence it brought. The name Scyldingas literally means "children of Scyld" or "Scyld’s descendants." Within Anglo‑Saxon literature the Scyldingas have come to represent an ideal of royal lineage, often used to emphasize legitimacy and continuity of the monarchic house.
