Scuffsanding
Scuffsanding is a woodworking and finishing technique used to prepare a surface for a new coating or to distress an existing finish. It involves using a very fine-grit abrasive material, typically a synthetic scouring pad or a very high-grit sandpaper, to lightly abrade the surface. The purpose is not to remove a significant amount of material, but rather to create a uniform, dull surface that will improve adhesion of the next layer of finish, whether it be paint, varnish, or stain. In some cases, scuffsanding is used to create an aged or worn appearance on new wood or furniture.
The grit of the abrasive used for scuffsanding is typically in the range of 220-400 grit, though
