Scrubjays
Scrubjays are medium-sized corvids belonging to the genus Aphelocoma. These intelligent birds are native to North America and are characterized by their generally blue and gray plumage, though color variations exist among the species. They are known for their bold and inquisitive nature, often frequenting human settlements and gardens in search of food. Their diet consists of a variety of items including insects, seeds, nuts, berries, and occasionally small vertebrates or eggs. Scrubjays are also known for their impressive memory, particularly their ability to cache food and retrieve it later, even after long periods.
There are several recognized species of scrubjays, including the California Scrub-Jay, Woodhouse's Scrub-Jay, and Island Scrub-Jay.
