Scleroterapian

Scleroterapian is a term used to describe a clinician who specializes in sclerosant therapy, a medical procedure aimed at treating venous abnormalities by injecting sclerosant solutions into affected veins. The goal is to irritate the endothelium, promote vein closure, and reduce symptoms such as swelling, heaviness, and cosmetic concerns.

The term is not widely established in formal medical literature. In practice, professionals who perform scleros therapy are typically dermatologists, vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, or phlebologists working in vascular, cosmetic, or dermatology clinics. Training and credentialing usually occur within the respective specialties, with emphasis on proper patient selection, injection technique, and management of potential complications.

Techniques involve liquid sclerosants, including polidocanol and sodium tetradecyl sulfate, as well as foam sclerosants that improve contact with the vein wall. Procedures may be performed in outpatient settings and guided by palpation or, for deeper or more complex vessels, ultrasound guidance. Common targets include reticular and varicose veins and spider veins, with foam sclerosants often preferred for larger or more tortuous segments.

Safety and efficacy vary with patient selection and technique. Short-term adverse effects can include pain, redness, swelling, and local hyperpigmentation. Rare but more serious complications, such as allergic reactions or unintended tissue damage, occur mainly with improper administration or in high-risk individuals. Overall, scleros therapy is considered effective for suitable venous lesions when performed by trained clinicians.
