Sclerophylla

Sclerophylla is a term used in botany to describe plants or plant parts that are hard, stiff, and somewhat leathery in texture. This characteristic is often an adaptation to arid or semi-arid environments, helping the plant to conserve water and withstand harsh conditions. Sclerophyllous leaves, for example, are typically thick and tough, with a reduced surface area and a waxy cuticle to minimize water loss through transpiration. This toughness also provides protection against herbivores.

The term itself derives from the Greek words "skleros" meaning hard, and "phyllon" meaning leaf.
