Schlitzschraubendreher

A Schlitzschraubendreher, commonly known in English as a slotted screwdriver or flat-head screwdriver, is a hand tool used for inserting and removing screws with a slotted head. The tip of the screwdriver is shaped to fit into the single, straight slot found on these types of screws. The screwdriver consists of a handle, a shaft, and the tip. The handle provides grip and leverage for the user, while the shaft connects the handle to the tip. The tip is the functional part that engages with the screw.

Slotted screws and their corresponding drivers were among the earliest types of screw fasteners and remain in use today, though they have been largely superseded by Phillips and Torx screws in many applications. The primary advantage of a slotted screw is its simplicity in manufacturing. However, a significant disadvantage is the tendency for the screwdriver to slip out of the slot, particularly when significant torque is applied, which can damage the screw head or the surrounding material, and pose a safety hazard. Different sizes of Schlitzschraubendreher exist, ranging from very small ones for delicate electronics to large ones for heavy-duty applications. The size of the tip must match the size of the screw slot for optimal performance and to prevent damage.
