Schengenszabályokkal refers to the rules and regulations associated with the Schengen Area. The Schengen Agreement, signed in 1985 and effective from 1995, created a zone encompassing 27 European countries that have abolished internal border controls and strengthened external border checks. This free movement allows citizens of Schengen countries and many non-Schengen citizens to travel within the area without undergoing passport or other types of border checks.

The Schengen acquis, the body of law governing the Schengen Area, covers various aspects of border management, visa policies, police and judicial cooperation, and data protection. Key elements include a common visa policy for short stays, enabling visa holders to travel to any Schengen country. It also establishes rules for the control of external borders, aiming to ensure security and manage migration effectively.

For travelers from outside the Schengen Area, understanding these rules is crucial. Depending on their nationality, individuals may require a Schengen visa to enter the zone. The duration of stay is typically limited to 90 days within any 180-day period. Citizens of many countries are exempt from visa requirements for short stays.

The implementation and enforcement of Schengen rules are coordinated among member states. While the benefits of free movement are significant for citizens and the economy, the abolition of internal borders necessitates robust cooperation on external border security and law enforcement to maintain safety and security within the zone.
