Schauminhibitors

Schauminhibitors, also known as foam control agents or defoamers, are chemical additives used to prevent or reduce the formation of foam in liquid systems. Foam is undesirable in many industrial processes as it can lead to reduced efficiency, product quality issues, overflow, and safety hazards. Schauminhibitors work by reducing the surface tension of the liquid, destabilizing the foam lamellae, and preventing further bubble formation.

These agents are typically composed of a carrier liquid, active ingredients such as silicone oils, mineral oils, fatty alcohols, or waxes, and sometimes surfactants. The mechanism of action involves the schauminhibitor spreading rapidly across the surface of the foam bubble and disrupting the stabilizing film.
