Schaan

Schaan is a municipality in Liechtenstein, located in the Oberland (Upper Country) region, in the north-eastern part of the country. It lies in the Rhine Valley immediately north of Vaduz, with the Alps to the east and Switzerland to the west across the Rhine.

Schaan is the most populous municipality in Liechtenstein, with a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial zones, and light industry. The economy includes various small and medium-sized enterprises, and the Hilti Group maintains significant operations there. The area has developed a substantial business park and services sector, contributing to Liechtenstein's economy.

The municipality is served by the national road network and the Liechtenstein public transport system; there is no railway in the country, and buses connect Schaan to Vaduz and other municipalities.

Historically, Schaan is one of the oldest settlements in Liechtenstein and is first mentioned in medieval documents dating from the 12th century. The local government consists of a mayor and a municipal council, reflecting Liechtenstein's local governance structure. The area includes residential zones, schools and community facilities, parks, and cultural sites.

Schaan participates in cantonal and national affairs through its representatives and maintains ties with neighboring communities in the Vaduz district. The municipality covers several square kilometers of the Rhine Valley landscape, characterized by fertile plains, scattered orchards, and nearby hillside terrain.
