Scenanalys is a term used in Swedish media and film studies to describe the systematic examination of a scene or sequence from a film, television program, theatre production, or other media. The goal is to understand how narrative, visual design, sound, performance, and context work together to convey meaning, mood, and ideology. Scenanalys can be applied in academic research, criticism, education, and production planning, and it often serves as a building block for broader analyses of a work.

A scenanalys typically investigates several interrelated elements. Mise-en-scène covers setting, lighting, costumes, props, and blocking of actors. Cinematography analyzes camera angles, movement, shot duration, framing, and composition. Editing and pacing look at how scenes are cut, the rhythm of transitions, and how these choices affect coherence and tension. Sound encompasses dialogue, music, effects, and their synchronization with visuals. Performance considers acting choices and how expressions, tone, and gesture contribute to character and meaning. The analysis may also address narrative structure, point of view, and recurring motifs or symbols, often within theoretical frameworks such as semiotics, psychoanalysis, or feminist theory.
