Scarbantia
Scarbantia is the Latin name of an ancient Roman town located at the site of present-day Szombathely in western Hungary. It was established in the early Roman period in Pannonia Superior and began as a military presence that gradually developed into a civilian settlement. Over time Scarbantia grew into a municipium, reflecting the typical Roman pattern of fortified military footholds evolving into organized urban centers with local self-government.
