SaxeGotha, officially the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha (Sachsen-Gotha), was a historic state of the Ernestine branch of the Wettin dynasty, located in what is now central Thuringia, Germany. Its capital and principal ducal seat was Gotha. The duchy emerged in the 17th century as a partition of the Ernestine lands and became one of the smaller German states within the Holy Roman Empire.
