Saviem-Berliet was a French manufacturer of trucks, buses, and military vehicles. The company was formed in 1975 through the merger of Saviem, a subsidiary of Renault, and Berliet, an independent truck manufacturer. This consolidation aimed to create a stronger, more competitive entity in the European automotive market. Saviem brought its expertise in light and medium-duty trucks, while Berliet contributed its legacy in heavy-duty vehicles and its established reputation.

The combined entity operated under the Saviem-Berliet name for several years, producing a range of vehicles that served various sectors, including commercial transport, public works, and defense. Notable models included the Saviem SM range of trucks and the Berliet GR series. The company faced significant challenges, including economic downturns and increasing competition.

In 1977, Renault took full control of Saviem-Berliet, and by 1980, the Saviem name was officially dropped, with all vehicles subsequently being marketed under the Berliet brand. However, even the Berliet brand's independence was short-lived. In 1977, Renault Véhicules Industriels (RVI) was established, and by 1981, the Berliet operations were integrated into RVI, which eventually became Renault Trucks. The Saviem-Berliet era represents a significant chapter in the history of French industrial vehicle manufacturing, reflecting a period of consolidation and adaptation within the automotive industry.
