Renault

Renault S.A., commonly known simply as Renault, is a French multinational automobile manufacturer and mobility company headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. Founded in 1899 by Louis Renault and his brothers Marcel and Fernand, the company designs, manufactures, and sells a range of passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, and electric vehicles. Renault is also involved in financing and mobility services through its subsidiary Renault Financial Services. The group owns the Romanian brand Dacia and the sport-oriented Alpine brand, and it produces vehicles under the Renault, Dacia, and Alpine marques.

Renault has a global manufacturing and sales footprint, with production facilities in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America and a presence in more than 100 countries. In Europe it competes in both conventional and electric segments, with models such as Clio, Megane, Captur, Kadjar, and Duster, alongside electric offerings like the Zoe hatchback and Kangoo electric van.

Historically, Renault was nationalized in 1945 and later privatized in the 1990s. In 1999 the company formed the Renault–Nissan Alliance, a cross-shareholding and collaboration with Nissan; this partnership expanded to include Mitsubishi Motors and became a cornerstone of the group’s strategy through the 2010s and into the 2020s. The alliance shared platforms, engineering, and purchasing to improve efficiency and scale.

Renault is publicly traded and governed by a board of directors, with operations spanning product development, manufacturing, and mobility services. The company and its alliance partners have pursued joint projects in electrification, autonomous driving, and international mobility solutions as part of a broader global strategy.
