Megane

Megane is a Japanese noun meaning eyeglasses. Written in kanji as 眼鏡 and read megane (めがね), the term refers to spectacles worn to correct vision or protect the eyes. It is used across everyday contexts, from fashion to medicine; sunglasses are typically called サングラス in Japanese.

In automotive contexts, Mégane is a compact car model produced by the French automaker Renault. Introduced in 1995, the model line has been sold worldwide and has appeared in hatchback, sedan, and station wagon formats. The Megane has undergone several generations: Megane I (1995–2002), Megane II (2002–2009), Megane III (2009–2016), and Megane IV (2015–present with updates). The range has included performance-oriented variants such as the Mégane RS, a high‑output hatchback, and, in the 2020s, the Mégane E‑Tech Electric, a fully electric variant built on a dedicated platform. The Megane line is a core part of Renault’s European lineup, balancing practicality and efficiency while offering sportier trims for enthusiasts.
