Satelliitülekannet

Satelliitülekannet is the Estonian term for satellite broadcasting. It refers to the transmission of signals from a satellite in Earth's orbit to receivers on the ground. This technology is commonly used for television and radio distribution, as well as for internet access and other data services.

The process begins with a ground station transmitting a signal up to a geostationary satellite. This satellite then amplifies and re-transmits the signal back down to a wide geographical area, covering many homes and businesses. Receivers on the ground, typically a satellite dish and a set-top box, capture and decode these signals.

Satellite broadcasting offers several advantages, including broad coverage over remote or difficult-to-reach areas where terrestrial infrastructure might be impractical or expensive. It can also provide a large number of channels or high-bandwidth data services. However, it can be susceptible to atmospheric conditions like heavy rain, which can degrade signal quality, and often requires a clear line of sight to the satellite. The initial cost of equipment and installation can also be a factor for consumers. Various companies and organizations provide satellite services globally, offering diverse content and connectivity options.
