Sarjaliitos

Sarjaliitos is a Finnish term that translates to "series connection" or "series circuit" in English. It describes an electrical circuit where components are connected in a single, continuous path. In a sarjaliitos, the electric current flows through each component in succession, one after the other. If one component in the series fails or is removed, the entire circuit is broken, and the flow of electricity stops.

The key characteristic of a sarjaliitos is that the current is the same through all components. However, the voltage across each component is generally different, depending on its resistance. The total resistance of a sarjaliitos is the sum of the resistances of all individual components. This type of connection is commonly used in simple applications like older Christmas lights, where a burned-out bulb would cause the entire string to go dark. While straightforward, the failure of a single element causing a complete circuit interruption makes sarjaliitos less practical for complex systems where reliability is paramount. More advanced circuits often employ parallel connections or combinations of series and parallel elements to mitigate this limitation.
