Sandboden
Sandboden is a German term in soil science for soils with a predominantly sandy texture. Such soils typically contain more than 60–70 percent sand by weight. They have high porosity and rapid drainage, and roots often enjoy good aeration, but they store little water and nutrients. Low surface area and low cation-exchange capacity mean nutrients are readily leached. The soil pH varies with the parent material and climate.
Formation and distribution: Sandboden forms from weathered sand-rich material, such as quartz sands. It occurs in
Agriculture and management: Due to low fertility, management emphasizes adding organic matter and supplying nutrients. Practices
Environmental notes: Sand soils are prone to wind and water erosion when bare. They host drought-adapted vegetation
