Samhällstjänst

Samhällstjänst is a concept in Swedish social policies that refers to a mandatory community service program for certain individuals. The term is often translated as "social service" or " civic service." It is also known as "tjänstgöring" in Swedish.

The purpose of samhällstjänst is to provide individuals with a sense of responsibility, civic engagement, and social contribution. It is typically offered to young people who have committed minor offenses, such as vandalism or theft, or to those who have been deemed at risk of committing such offenses. The program serves as a rehabilitation tool, aiming to improve the individual's understanding of social norms and their role within society.
