Samenanalysen refers to the laboratory and field assessments of seeds to determine their quality, identity, and performance. In seed science, analyses typically cover germination and viability, vigor, genetic identity and purity, moisture content, and seed size or weight. The results are used to decide whether a seed lot meets contractual, regulatory, or breeding program requirements and to guide storage, handling, and marketing decisions. Seed laboratories performing Samenanalysen commonly follow standardized procedures published by international and national bodies, such as the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA).

Germination tests measure the proportion of seeds that sprout under defined conditions within a set period, providing a germination rate that informs seed lot quality. Purity analysis determines the share of seeds belonging to the intended species or variety and identifies contaminants, such as other crop seeds or weed seeds.
