Salauslaitteet

Salauslaitteet refers to a type of condensing tank used in breweries, distilleries, and other industries for condensing steam and releasing to the atmosphere vapor and any aldehydes which they contain. This equipment is used to purify the vapor by splitting the original steam into three components.

The first fraction, water vapor, is condensed and collected as product water. The second fraction, aldehydes, can result in algae growth within the condensing tank. As a result, it is essential to keep the condenser scrupulously clean, and to drain the tank regularly, so as not to create the ideal conditions for this type of growth. However, when dealing with specific types of condensation, such as the condensation of propanal in the manufacture of butanone, the aldehyde fraction may be intentionally isolated.

The third fraction is usually organic compounds and salts which remain dissolved in the condensed steam. These salts can accumulate over time and lead to scaling within the condenser's heat transfer surfaces, thus affecting its heat transfer efficiency and requiring cleaning or replacement. In environments with high levels of mineral buildup, such as hard water districts, regular descaling may be necessary to maintain efficient operation. The design of the condenser and other factors such as water flow rates and temperature can also impact its performance.
