Sagedused

Sagedused is the Estonian term for frequency, referring to the rate or count with which something occurs within a defined set or period. In Estonian usage the plural sagedused can describe multiple kinds of frequencies across different domains, including statistics, linguistics, physics and epidemiology.

In statistics, sagedused refer to how often data points occur in a dataset. They can take the form of absolute frequency (the raw count of observations in a category), relative frequency (the proportion or percentage of observations in that category), and cumulative frequency (the running total). Frequency distributions organize data into classes and are often summarized in tables or histograms.

In linguistics, word frequencies describe how often words appear in a corpus. These frequencies influence language teaching, lexicography, natural language processing and search algorithms. Highly frequent words tend to appear early in word lists and corpora.

In physics, frequency denotes the number of cycles of a periodic phenomenon per unit time, measured in hertz (Hz). It is related to wavelength and speed of propagation via the equation v = fλ.

In public health and epidemiology, frequencies of diseases or events may be reported as incidence, prevalence or risk over a population, often per 1,000 or 100,000 people. Accurate reporting of sagedused supports risk assessment, resource allocation and trend analysis.

The term is chiefly a descriptive measure, not a probability itself, though frequency data can be used to estimate probabilities with appropriate assumptions.
