Sabrosa

Sabrosa is a municipality in northern Portugal, located in the Vila Real District within the Norte region and the Douro intermunicipal community. It lies in the Douro valley, an area famous for terraced vineyards and wine production, and is part of the Douro Demarcated Region, a historic wine region established in 1756 and recognized by UNESCO as part of the Douro Valley World Heritage landscape.

The landscape is hilly, with many villages and parishes. The local economy is based on agriculture, especially viticulture for Douro DOC wines and wine estates, as well as olive growing and related agro-tourism. The region attracts visitors for scenic drives along the river, vineyard tours, and hillside viewpoints overlooking the Douro.

Historically, Sabrosa has roots in medieval and early modern Portugal, and its architecture reflects rural Douro traditions, including stone houses, chapels, and narrow winding streets shaped by the terraced slopes.

The municipality is administratively divided into several civil parishes (freguesias).
