SMSC
An SMSC, or Short Message Service Center, is a core network element in GSM, UMTS, and LTE networks responsible for the store-and-forward handling of SMS messages. It accepts messages from mobile devices or application servers, stores them temporarily, and forwards them toward the recipient’s device or to another SMSC. It also preserves delivery information and can generate delivery reports.
In typical operation, a sender’s device transmits the SMS to the nearest SMSC via the serving MSC.
