SLURMJOBID

SLURMJOBID is the unique numeric identifier assigned by the Slurm Workload Manager to a submitted job within a Slurm-controlled cluster. It serves as the primary reference for tracking, controlling, and reporting on the job as it moves through the queue, executes, and completes.

When a user submits a job via sbatch or srun, Slurm returns the SLURMJOBID. This identifier can be used with standard Slurm commands to manage and monitor the job, such as squeue to check status, scancel to cancel, scontrol to modify settings, and sacct to retrieve accounting information. Job IDs are unique within a cluster and persist for the duration of the job’s life cycle. For job arrays, each array element receives its own SLURMJOBID derived from the base ID.

In practice, environment and tooling often expose the job’s ID in various forms. For example, running tasks may access the current ID through environment variables that correspond to the SLURMJOBID of the task. After completion, the job ID may still appear in accounting records or logs, depending on system configuration, even though it is no longer active in the queue.
