The SD40X also features a modern control system, including a digital control panel and a cab with improved ergonomics and visibility. The locomotive is designed to operate on standard gauge tracks and is commonly used in both freight and passenger service. The SD40X is known for its durability and low maintenance requirements, making it a popular choice among rail operators. It has been in service since 2005 and continues to be a significant part of the GE Transportation product line.
