SASIGINFO

SASIGINFO is a standardized information registry and metadata framework associated with the SASIG ecosystem. It is designed to catalog, describe, and expose data assets, services, and related artifacts used within SASIG communities, with the aim of improving data discovery, interoperability, provenance, and governance across distributed data environments.

The system provides a core metadata model that covers essential properties such as identifiers, titles, descriptions, creators and contributors, publication status, version, format, spatial and temporal coverage, subject keywords, rights and licensing, access conditions, provenance, quality metrics, and lineage. It supports extension through domain-specific schemas and exposes data through APIs and harvest protocols to external registries. The framework emphasizes compatibility with established standards such as DCAT and Schema.org where feasible, enabling broader interoperability.

Governance and usage are integral components of SASIGINFO. The registry includes policies on data classification, access control, retention, and lifecycle management, and supports data discovery, citation, reuse, and reproducibility by providing persistent identifiers, versioning, and clear provenance paths. It is intended to be used by SASIG members to register new data assets, monitor data quality, and coordinate data sharing across partner organizations.

Development and scope focus on interoperability and extensibility. While primarily adopted within the SASIG ecosystem, SASIGINFO is designed to interoperate with external metadata catalogs, enabling cross-registry search and integration. Ongoing work emphasizes improving metadata quality, automating metadata generation, and expanding domain-specific profiles to accommodate diverse data assets and services.
