Sõidureast

Sõidureast, often translated as "driving lane" or "traffic lane," refers to a designated section of a roadway intended for the movement of a single line of vehicles. These lanes are typically marked by lines painted on the road surface, separating them from other lanes and the edges of the roadway. The primary purpose of sõidureast is to organize traffic flow, improve safety by providing predictable paths for vehicles, and maximize road capacity.

In most countries, traffic travels on the right side of the road, meaning sõidureast are arranged from left to right in ascending order of lane number, with the rightmost lane generally being the slowest or for exiting. Conversely, in countries where traffic drives on the left, the lane arrangement is reversed. The number of sõidureast on a road varies depending on its size and the volume of traffic it is designed to handle. Larger highways typically have multiple sõidureast in each direction, while smaller streets may have only one or two.

Lane discipline is crucial for road safety. Drivers are expected to stay within their designated sõidureast as much as possible, signaling their intentions before changing lanes.
