Sítróns

Sítróns, scientifically known as Citrus × limon, is a species of small evergreen tree native to South Asia, particularly northeastern India. It is a hybrid between a citron and a bitter orange. The fruit, also called a lemon, is oval-shaped with a yellow rind and tart, acidic pulp. Lemons are a significant source of vitamin C and are widely used in cooking, cleaning, and traditional medicine.

The plant thrives in subtropical and tropical climates and can be grown from seed or cuttings. It typically produces white, fragrant flowers that eventually develop into the characteristic lemon fruit. The tree can grow up to 6 meters (20 feet) tall.

Globally, lemons are cultivated in various regions, with major producers including India, Mexico, China, Argentina, and Brazil. The fruit's versatility makes it a staple ingredient in cuisines worldwide, used for its juice, zest, and pulp in dishes ranging from desserts and marinades to beverages and sauces. Beyond culinary uses, lemon oil, extracted from the rind, is utilized in perfumes and aromatherapy.

Historically, lemons have been valued for their perceived medicinal properties, often associated with aiding digestion and detoxification. While scientific evidence for some traditional claims is limited, their high vitamin C content is well-established and contributes to immune system health.
