Sähköliedet, commonly known as electric stoves, are kitchen appliances used for cooking. They generate heat through the use of electricity, which is then transferred to cookware. Early electric stoves utilized heating coils that glowed red hot, while modern versions often employ ceramic or induction technology for more efficient heating.

Ceramic electric stoves feature a smooth glass-ceramic surface with heating elements located beneath it. These elements heat up, and the heat is conducted through the ceramic to the pots and pans placed on top. They are generally easy to clean due to their seamless surface.

Induction cooktops represent a more advanced form of electric cooking. Instead of directly heating the surface, they use electromagnetism to heat the cookware itself. This is achieved by passing an electric current through a coil beneath the ceramic surface, creating a magnetic field. When a ferromagnetic pot or pan is placed on the cooktop, the magnetic field induces eddy currents within the cookware, generating heat directly. This method is highly energy-efficient and allows for precise temperature control, as the cooktop surface itself remains relatively cool.

Electric stoves are a popular choice in many households due to their availability, ease of use, and the consistent heat they provide. They offer a reliable alternative to gas stoves, particularly in areas where natural gas is not readily accessible. Maintenance typically involves cleaning the cooktop surface and ensuring electrical connections are secure.
