Rührer is a German noun with multiple related meanings. In everyday language it refers to a device used for stirring or mixing ingredients. In kitchen use, a Rührer can be a hand-held mixer or a stand mixer, designed to blend, whip, or knead small to medium quantities. A hand rührer typically includes interchangeable attachments such as beaters, whisks, and dough hooks, while a stand mixer combines a motorized arm with a bowl and planetary motion for more efficient mixing.

In scientific and industrial contexts, a Rührer denotes a mechanical device that stirs liquids and suspensions to promote homogeneity, heat transfer, or chemical reaction. Magnetic stirrers use a rotating magnet beneath a vessel to drive a stir bar, suitable for low to medium viscosity liquids. Overhead or shaft-driven stirrers employ impellers, paddles, or anchors to mix more viscous substances.
