Rømning

Rømning is a noun in Norwegian that refers to the act of leaving a place to seek safety or to vacate an area. It is the result of the verb rømme, which means to leave, withdraw, or evacuate. The term is commonly used in safety and emergency contexts as well as in everyday language when a space is cleared of people or contents.

In safety and building contexts, rømning describes the process of evacuating people from a building, area, or event due to danger such as fire, flood, or other emergencies. It is closely linked to planning and infrastructure for emergency egress, including marked rømningsveier (evacuation routes) and rømningsplaner (evacuation plans). Beyond emergencies, rømning can also refer to clearing out or vacating a space more generally, such as rømning av et lager (emptying a warehouse) or rømning av et rom (vacating a room).
