Ruuvikompressoreita

Ruuvikompressoreita, often translated as screw compressors, are a type of positive displacement compressor. They operate by using two intermeshing helical rotors to compress a gas. One rotor is typically male and the other female, with the male rotor having lobes and the female rotor having grooves. As the rotors turn, gas is drawn into the inlet port. The intermeshing action of the rotors traps successive volumes of gas between them and the compressor casing. The rotation then reduces the volume of these trapped gas pockets, thereby increasing the pressure. Finally, the compressed gas is discharged through an outlet port.

The continuous rotation of the rotors provides a smooth, pulsation-free air supply, which is a key advantage over reciprocating compressors. Screw compressors are known for their efficiency, reliability, and relatively quiet operation. They are widely used in various industrial applications, including manufacturing, processing plants, and compressed air systems for tools and machinery. Their design allows for continuous operation and a high degree of efficiency across a range of pressures and flow rates. Maintenance requirements are generally moderate, with oil-lubricated designs being common for improved sealing and cooling, while oil-free variants are also available for applications where oil contamination is a concern, such as in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
