Roxio

Roxio is a software brand that develops multimedia tools for disc burning, video editing, audio conversion, and media management. It originated in the 1990s as a line of CD/DVD recording software developed by Adaptec and later marketed under the Roxio name, including the Windows program Easy CD Creator and the Mac companion Toast.

History and ownership of the brand have shifted through several corporate transitions. In 2001, Sonic Solutions acquired Roxio and continued to develop its Windows and Mac products, expanding the line with Toast Titanium for Mac and a Windows suite that evolved from Easy Media Creator. The Roxio brand later moved through additional corporate changes when Sonic Solutions was acquired by Rovi, which subsequently merged with TiVo. In 2012, Corel Corporation acquired the Roxio consumer software business and has since marketed the Roxio line as part of its digital-media portfolio.

Products and focus have evolved to reflect changing media consumption. The flagship offerings include Toast for Mac, a disc-burning and media-conversion application, and Creator for Windows, a suite for multimedia project creation and disc authoring. Over time, the line expanded to encompass video editing, screen recording, and media organization, aligning with Corel’s broader multimedia software strategy. The Roxio brand remains oriented toward home users and hobbyists who create and manage multimedia content for optical discs and digital formats, continuing to serve both Mac and Windows platforms.
