Routineswhile

Routineswhile is a concurrency primitive described in some programming frameworks as a control construct that maintains a set of routines active as long as a given condition evaluates to true. It is not a universal language feature but a design pattern used to orchestrate parallel tasks with lifetimes tied to a predicate.

Semantics: When a routineswhile construct is entered, multiple routines begin or resume execution. The central loop repeatedly advances each active routine as long as the condition remains true. If the condition becomes false, the construct initiates a graceful shutdown of the active routines, allowing in-flight work to complete or be cancelled according to policy. Some implementations support yielding, cancellation tokens, and timeouts.

Implementation notes: Routineswhile is commonly realized atop an asynchronous runtime or executor service. It abstracts the coordination of lifecycle events, such as starting, pausing, resuming, and terminating routines. It can be used to implement streaming pipelines, event-driven backends, or replay-safe tasks that must stop when a global state changes.

Variants may include optional postcondition checks, error handling strategies, and cancellation policies.
