Routerenetzwerke

Routerenetzwerke, often simply referred to as router networks, are fundamental components of modern computer networking. Their primary function is to connect different networks together and direct data packets between them. This process of directing traffic is known as routing. Routers examine the destination IP address of each incoming data packet and consult their internal routing tables to determine the most efficient path to forward the packet towards its intended recipient.

These networks are essential for the functioning of the internet. Without routers, data would be confined to isolated local networks, unable to travel across the globe. Routers are deployed at various scales, from small home networks connecting a few devices to large-scale internet infrastructure managed by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). They operate at the network layer (Layer 3) of the OSI model, making decisions based on logical addressing (IP addresses).
