Roosevelt

Roosevelt is a surname of Dutch origin, derived from the elements roos meaning rose and veld meaning field. It is associated with a prominent American political family and with various places and institutions named after the Roosevelt presidents.

Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919) was the 26th president of the United States from 1901 to 1909. A leader of the Progressive Era, he promoted reforms to curb corporate power, conserve natural resources, and build a modern navy; he helped broker the Panama Canal and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for mediating the Russo-Japanese War.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882–1945) served as the 32nd president from 1933 to 1945, the longest tenure in U.S. history. His New Deal programs aimed to lift the United States out of the Great Depression and he led the nation during most of World War II. He died in office in 1945.

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962) was a prominent diplomat, humanitarian, and First Lady. She redefined the role of the First Lady and later chaired the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, helping draft and promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
