Rombohedrális refers to a specific type of crystal system or a related geometric shape. The term suggests a connection to rhombohedral symmetry, a subclass of trigonal crystal systems. In crystallography, a rhombohedral lattice is a Bravais lattice with a rhombohedral unit cell, characterized by three equal axes that intersect at equal angles, none of which are ninety degrees. This geometry results in shapes like a stretched or compressed cube, where the faces are rhombuses. A common example of a rhombohedral shape is the rhombohedron itself, a polyhedron with six rhombus-shaped faces. Minerals crystallizing in the rhombohedral system often exhibit this characteristic symmetry. Examples include calcite and quartz, although quartz is more typically described as hexagonal due to its higher symmetry.
